ROCK ISLAND, Illinois -- According to the Rock Island County coroner, 25-year-old Alexander Jackson died after a crash along Illinois Route 92. The coroner says the cause of death is presumed drowning.
The crash happened shortly before 9 a.m., Monday, April 29, according to Rock Island County Coroner Brian Gustafson.
The driver was headed northbound on Route 92 between the 31st Avenue and 18th Avenue exits when the vehicle went off the road and became submerged in floodwaters on the east side of the road, according to a statement from Rock Island's Deputy Chief of Police Jason Foy.
Gustafson said the vehicle likely hydroplaned.
According to Foy, there were two witnesses behind the vehicle who stayed at the scene until emergency responders arrived.
The driver was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
