CLINTON, Iowa -- A stabbing that stemmed from a domestic dispute near Clinton Community College prompted a temporary lockdown at the school, said police.
The whole incident on Thursday morning, April 11, lasted about 35 minutes, according to Clinton Police Chief Kevin Gyrion.
At first, police said they were responding to what they thought was an active shooter in the 900 block of Lawndale Drive. That address was just east of the school, so police asked staff and students to not leave the building. Other area schools were placed on lockdown as well.
Investigators found that one person at the home had been stabbed, said Chief Gyrion. The victim was treated and released.
Police said the offender was identified as a 17-year-old boy. He is being charged with assault with intent to inflict serious injury.
Nobody inside the building was in any danger, according to a post on the school's Facebook page. The college was reopened by 11:45 a.m.
A spokesperson from the college said the incident was not related to the college, but was happening nearby. It was police who requested that nobody leave the school.
