Red Cross to continue free water aid to flood victims in the QC

The American Red Cross will give out free water on April 8 and April 10 to those impacted by flooding in the Campbell’s Island area.

CAMPBELL'S ISLAND, Illinois – The American Red Cross will extend its free water aid for residents directly affected by flooding in the Campbell’s Island area in East Moline.

Bottled water will be available and distributed out of a Red Cross vehicle at the Campbell's Island Fire at the following dates and times, according to a press release.

4/19 - Friday
4/22 - Saturday
4/24 - Tuesday
4/26 - Thursday

They were at the station earlier this month on April 12, April 15 and April 17, according to a press release.

Water distribution is also available for residents in Scott County.  The following days are included:

4/12 - Friday          3 p.m. - 7 p.m.
4/13 - Saturday    9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
4/16 - Tuesday      3 p.m. - 7 p.m.
4/18 - Thursday    3 p.m. - 7 p.m.
4/20 - Saturday     9 a.m. - 2 p.m.

As of April 18, the Mississippi was falling, measuring in around 19 feet. However, Storm Track 8 meteorologist Andrew Stutzke said the river is expected to rise back up to 20 feet near the end of April.

The river's highest crest was more than 20 feet, which was more than two feet above major flood stage, according to the National Weather Service. Many of the homes on the island were completely surrounded by water at the height of the most recent crest.

Walmart donated 4 pallets of water at the request of Rock Island County Emergency Management Agency. Red Cross is picked up the water, transported and distributed these supplies.

Storage is being handled by the Campbell’s Island Fire Department. The Hampton Fire Department has provided volunteers to assist in unloading the water.

Red Cross is working with Rock Island County Emergency Management to help residents.
