SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — State government buildings are flying U.S. and Illinois flags at half-staff in honor of a McHenry County sheriff's deputy killed in a Rockford hotel shooting.

Jacob Keltner was part of a U.S. Marshals task force and attempting to serve a warrant last Thursday when he was fatally wounded . Thirty-nine-year-old Floyd Brown of Springfield has been charged with first-degree murder.

Gov. J.B. Pritzker ordered the flag honor until sunset Wednesday .

The 35-year-old Keltner was a 12-year veteran of the McHenry County department. He is survived by his wife, Becki and two young sons.

Republican Sen. Craig Wilcox of McHenry says of Keltner, "He gave his life to protect all of us."

The McHenry County Sheriff's Department says the funeral will be Wednesdayat Woodstock High School.
