GALESBURG, Illinois -- A "threat" made to Galesburg High School was actually just rumors, the Galesburg Police Department said on Monday, March 4.

According to the school principal, the school got a possible school threat over the weekend. Police got involved and found there was no evidence that there was a credible threat because it was only rumors.

Captain Rodney Riggs said the rumors originated with a high school student and circulated on social media. Police investigated and found the rumors were not credible.

No charges have been filed.

Staff is taking additional precautions to make sure students are safe, but there is no word on what those steps are.
