Police say reports of shots fired ‘unfounded’ near Jefferson Elementary

DAVENPORT, Iowa -- Jefferson Elementary School was placed on lockdown after police got a report that someone had a gunshot wound nearby.

After investigating, that report was "unfounded," according to the Davenport Police Department.

The report of someone with a gunshot wound prompted the lockdown, said police.  Around 3:15 p.m., on Tuesday, February 26, several police were on scene near Marquette Street and West 12th Street as the investigation was underway.

The lockdown was lifted once the report came up unfounded.

"This call did not involve Jefferson School," said police.

Police said information they got may have described a possible disturbance in the area of 17th Street and Fillmore.

Detectives were continuing their investigation and were asking anyone with information to call the Davenport Police Department at 563-326-6125.
