Iowa-bound I-74 traffic moving again after multi vehicle crash blocks entire highway

BETTENDORF, Iowa- Police say a multi-vehicle accident on I-74 forced them to shut down the entire roadway.

Around 11:55 A.M. Police pulled up to mile marker 4.7 to find 4 cars that were involved in a chain reaction crash after another vehicle became disabled in the roadway.

During the crash, two were totaled and totally blocked the roadway.

Police say due to the nature of the roadway and a line of stopped cars, emergency personnel had to access the accident by traveling the wrong way on I-74 for a short distance.

I-74 west remained closed for approximately 40 minutes until the scene could be cleared and the roadway safely reopened.

Drivers from two of the cars, a 25-year-old female from Ohio, IL and a 48-year-old male from Davenport were transported to local hospitals.

“Drivers are reminded that the I-74 corridor is an active construction area and will remain so in the coming years. Drivers need to slow down, increase following distances and remain attentive to changing traffic conditions.”

Update: Iowa-bound traffic is moving once again as of 12:37 p.m.
