BETTENDORF, Iowa -- A 50-year-old man died after a crash on State Street in Bettendorf.
The crash happened near the intersection of 30th Street and State Street, or US Highway 67, around 2:40 a.m. Thursday, December 27, according to a statement from the City of Bettendorf.
The driver, later identified as Mark McClintock, wound up going off the south side of the road, hitting a utility pole and junction box, the statement said. When first responders arrived the driver was unresponsive. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died.
Police are working to determine if a medical condition may have contributed to the crash.
McClintock was from Pleasant Valley and owned Boozies Bar & Grill, according to an employee at the restaurant. The restaurant posted about the loss on their Facebook page. They said "The Quad Cities lost a good soul..." and said "His spirit will live on through his family and through Boozies and through the wonderful customers that he loved to serve over the many years."
McClintock ran Boozies for 11 years, according to his obituary. He graduated in 1987 from Prophetstown High School and was active in helping local colleges. He was also a sports fan, supporting the Cubs, Bears and Iowa Hawkeyes.
Memorial services were held Wednesday, January 2.
