Woman escapes burning East Moline home

A woman and her pets were able to escape their burning home near Jacob’s Park in East Moline.

EAST MOLINE, Illinois --  A woman and her pets were able to escape their burning home near Jacob's Park in East Moline.

Firefighters were called to the two-story home in the 3800 block of 4th Avenue B shortly before 3 p.m. Tuesday, November 27.  Crews remained on scene as of 5 p.m., and the fire chief said they expected to stay there late into the night.

The chief told WQAD News 8 that one older woman lives there with one or two cats.  She was able to get out safely, along with her pets.

"At first I thought it was just chimney smoke," said resident Austin Bowman, "then it started to blare it up, the whole block was just smoke."

Contents inside the home made the fire difficult to put out because many passageways were blocked, according to the fire chief.
