DAVENPORT, Iowa -- A man driving on East River Drive was killed after crashing into the railroad bridge on Oct. 28, police say.

Ricardo Bernal, 45, of Davenport, was heading east in the area of 1800 E River Drive in a Dodge Durango according to a press release from the Davenport Police Department sent on Oct. 30. At 10:22 p.m. his car left the roadway and struck the railroad bridge.

Bernal was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the only occupant of the vehicle.

An investigation is ongoing and no other information is available at this time.

WQAD reached out to Sarah Bernal, daughter of Ricardo Bernal, for an interview.  She told WQAD News 8 that her father had recently graduated college and was "eager to start his new life."

She gave News 8 the following statement:

"My father was a good man who made mistakes like all of us do but recently he turned his life around, he received a Bachelor's in electronical engineering from Hamilton in May 2018. He was hired at Marcos Sandblasting before he had even graduated. He was eager to start his new life....unfortunately God had other plans for him..... We could not have been more blessed and proud to have a man like him in our lives. He was a loving and devoted son, brother, father, grandfather, and friend. He was a man that many people are going to miss seeing."
