BETTENDORF, IA, – A Florida woman was accused of cashing stolen checks from the University of Iowa Credit Union.
Over the course of two days, Tuesday and Wednesday, September 25 and 26, police said 35-year-old Shari Lee Buzzard tried to cash several personal checks that had been reported stolen from vehicle burglaries.
According to an affidavit out of Scott County, Buzzard cashed two stolen personal checks from the bank drive-through, getting $4,300. The checks were reportedly stolen from Grimes, Iowa and Davenport, Iowa.
Police said she tried to cash a third check the next day worth $7,500. That check was reported stolen during a vehicle burglary in Bettendorf on Saturday, September 22.
According to the affidavit, Buzzard tried to use a stolen debit card and driver’s license to cash the stolen checks. Both the driver’s license and the debit card had been reported stolen during a vehicle burglary in Coralville, Iowa on Friday, September 21.
The vehicle Buzzard was driving was a grey 2018 Chrysler 300 that had been rented from Enterprise rentals, the affidavit said. The license plate she was using was reported stolen from a resident in Davenport.
Buzzard was arrested in Bettendorf on September 26. Jail records show that she was booked into the Scott County Jail just before 7 p.m. and was released less than 15 hours later.
She was charged with the following:
- 2 counts of identity theft over 1000 dollars 715A.8(3)
- 2 counts of forgery 715A.2(2)(A)
- 2nd-degree theft 714.2(2)
- 3 counts of 5th-degree theft 714.2(5)
- Fraudulent use of registration 321.99
- No valid drivers license 321.174(1)
