UPDATE 9:42 a.m. 7/25: The search continues for a 2-year-old boy who fell into the river last night.

Bob Graff, Assistant Fire Chief with the Rock Island Fire Department, said search crews from Rock Island, Davenport and Arsenal fire departments, as well as conservation police, are all on the scene. This is now a recovery mission.

Crews are using sonar technology to scan the water, Graff said. However, fast currents and debris on the river bottom create challenges. The crews plan to search as long as there is daylight to locate the missing child.

When the boy fell in, some bystanders also jumped in to save him, but they were unsuccessful, Graff said. There were no injuries reported from those who jumped in.

UPDATE 3:50 a.m. 7/25: Recovery efforts will resume Wednesday, July 25, for a two year-old child who fell into the Mississippi River Tuesday, July 24.
