MOLINE-  The city, in partnership with Music Guild, WQAD and the Moline Historic Preservation Society have partnered on a project to spruce up and improve the historic park. Improvements include new playground equipment, a new fishing pier and a refurbished pavilion.

Wednesday, July 18, WQAD  is hosting a Social Media-a-Thon to help raise awareness and contributions. The Moline Historic Preservation Society has set up a Go Fund me account to help raise funds for the park. You can learn how to donate by clicking here.

Stay tuned to the WQAD Facebook Page for information on the "Social Media-a-Thon" throughout the day Wednesday, but earlier in the morning, we had 5th Ward Alderwoman Lori Tuner on Good Morning Quad Cities to discus why the improvements are needed.

She says the city is looking for an extra $50,00 in order to paint the grand pavilion.

"Moline Parks has put together $450,000 in improvements already with cement stairs, and the playground and such," Turner said Wednesday. "An extra $50,000 would kind of put the finishing touches on it with pairing, refinsihing the flooring, and fixing up the finishing the pier."

Stay tuned to our WQAD News 8 Facebook page throughout the day for coverage of our Social Media-a-Thon.
