DAVENPORT, Iowa -- A Davenport Police officer has been placed on administrative leave (per protocol while investigation continues) and a suspect is in custody this Tuesday, March 13 morning after shots were exchanged between them in the 2100 block of Grand Avenue in Davenport.

Officers were called to address a domestic dispute at a home at 2800 Arlington Ave. just before 4 a.m., according to Davenport Police Chief Paul Sikorski.

An officer approached a 43-year-old man with a handgun as he was walking toward Locust St. and Grand Ave., where he intended to confront a woman who had previously filed a restraining order against him.

The suspect produced a handgun. The officer drew his service weapon, and shots were exchanged, according to a press release from Davenport Police.

The suspect was hit, but not severely injured. He was taken to Genesis East Hospital, in police custody.

The officer has been placed on administrative leave. He was not injured.

The situation is under investigation, according to Sikorski.
