COLONA, Illinois -  Fire crews spent several hours fighting a fire at the I-80 Trucking Equipment facility in Colona, Illinois on Tuesday, February 7, 2018 .

The company is located off Route 6 in Colona, near the Big X intersection.

Initial reports say that about a dozen fire departments from around the area responded and that water also had to be brought in because of a lack of fire hydrants.

Heavy smoke could be seen pouring out of the building. Officials have not said if anyone was inside of the building, or if anyone was hurt during the fire.

A witness who lives next door to the warehouse, Jason Lammers, said he was sitting in his room when he heard fire crews rushing past his house.

He said that he heard a very loud explosion followed by smaller ones. Lammers said he then saw smoke come billowing out of the building and that he watched the roof cave in.

"It was definitely one of the largest explosions I've heard in my life." Lammers said.

The scene was still active and smoke was still filling the air as of 9:00 p.m.

Because of the lack of hydrants, water was constantly being brought in throughout the evening.

Emergency Disaster Volunteers from the Quad City Salvation Army were dispatched to Colona to help serve firefighters still on duty.

They will provide food, water, coffee and warming shelters for the emergency responders on the scene.

Steve Garrington, an organizer of the volunteers, says fire fighters could be on the scene "all night" long.

This is a developing story. Updates will be provided as they become available.
