DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) — A Texas woman asked for forgiveness before being sentenced to up to 10 years in prison for causing a car crash in eastern Iowa that killed one person.

The Quad-City Times reports that 58-year-old Lauria Lee Kelly of Alvarado, Texas, was sentenced Wednesday in Scott County District Court. Kelly was found guilty of homicide by vehicle-reckless driving for the January 2017 car accident that killed Cynthia Jones.

Witnesses say Kelly was speeding and running through red traffic lights in downtown Davenport. Police say Kelly's vehicle struck Jones' car, which was stopped at a red light. Jones was fatally injured in the impact.

The judge also ordered Kelly to pay $150,000 in restitution to Jones' family.

Kelly apologized to Jones' family during the hearing. She has 30 days to file an appeal notice.
