EAST MOLINE, Illinois -- A semi driver heading westbound on I-80 was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after crashing into an embankment.
The semi driver left the roadway near Mile Marker 5, at the overpass of Barstow Road around 4:15 a.m. Monday, January 8th, according to a statement from the Illinois State Police. The semi was hauling refrigerated food products, but no word on whether any items spilled out of the truck.
The driver was cited for improper lane usage, no valid registration, no seat built and having a bad tire, according to Illinois State Police.
According to the Rock Island County Sheriff's Department, Diesel fuel was leaking and Hazmat was at the scene working to prevent it from spreading into the Rock River.
Barstow Road was reportedly closed in both directions, but I-80 was open.
