BURLINGTON, Iowa -- A woman is dead and a man is charged with first degree murder after reported domestic problem.

Police responded to a home in the 1600 block of Lincoln Street around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 17th, according to a statement from the Burlington Police Department.  That's where they said they encountered 29-year-old Garret Scott Selters.

As police continued to check welfare, they found 56-year-old Linda Sue Selters unresponsive and with life-threatening injuries, the statement said.  Linda Sue Selters was ultimately airlifted to Iowa City for treatment, but police said she later died at the hospital.

According to The Hawk Eye, the pair were mother and son.  Authorities said that it appeared Linda Sue Selters was struck multiple times with a blunt instrument.

Initially, Garret Scott Selters was taken to the hospital for evaluation but was later arrested and charged with willful injury.  The Des Moines County Attorney's Office has upped his charges to first degree murder.  His bond has been set at $1 million.
