Has Common Core been working?  Common Core curriculum, which is a set of standards initiated by the state, has gotten mixed reviews since it was unveiled to students.

WQAD News 8’s Megan Noe is working to figure out, and will reveal her findings Thursday, October 26th on News 8 at 5 p.m.

Support for lattice math specifically has seen both ends of the spectrum.

Back in 2014, one mom from Geneseo said she and her sons would work on math from the time they got home from school until bedtime.  That’s when she decided to pull them out of school. After working with them and using traditional math, she said they were excelling.

An elementary teacher in Aledo however said he’s seen success with lattice multiplication, especially with students who were struggling with the traditional method.

“I went from nobody doing their homework, to everybody getting it in and getting 100’s on it,” the teacher said.
