Driver dies after Friday crash at Locust Street and Jersey Ridge overpass

DAVENPORT, Iowa — Two drivers involved in a collision at Locust Street and the Jersey Ridge overpass were hospitalized, and one later died.

The crash happened around noon Friday, Feb. 10. Police say 38-year-old John Morgan, of Davenport,was driving westbound and crossed the center line, hitting a car driven by 93-year-old Ruth Hitchcock, of Bettendorf. Both drivers had serious injuries.

On Monday morning, police confirmed that Ruth Hitchcock had passed away from her injuries.

Morgan was cited for driving left of center, control of vehicle, driving under suspension and no insurance.

This investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by the Traffic Safety Unit of the Davenport Police Department.

The crash was cleaned up and the street was open to traffic by 2:30 p.m. Friday.
