WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Barack Obama delivered his final press conference from the White House briefing room at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18.

George Stephanopoulos anchored the conference.

The President talked about his legacy, some controversies and defended his recent decision to commute the sentence of Chelsea Manning, who leaked classified information.

Obama said more work needs to be done in regard to race relation, and also made a thinly veiled response to the incoming administration’s suggestion to move the press corp out of the White House.

“Having you in this building has made this place work better. It keeps us honest, it makes us work harder,” he said. “America needs you, and our democracy needs you.”

Obama said he looks forward to being “quiet a little bit” and spending more time with his family. He leaves the White House on Friday, Jan. 20, with a near-record approval rating at 60 percent.
