MOLINE, Illinois--  The Moline Breakfast Optimist Club will be partnering with staff at Jefferson Early Childhood Center for their annual Shoes and Coats that Fit program.

The program donates brand new coats, shoes, hats and gloves to students at Jefferson who need them.

Moline Breakfast Optimist Club members raised the money to buy the clothes at the Walmart in Moline. They raised enough to buy 26 pairs of shoes and 17 winter coats.

"We fit every child that's going to receive shoes with a letter that goes home to their parents and they measure their child's feet and let us know what they need," says Patrick Wendt, chairman of the Moline Breakfast Optimist Club.

For the past 17 years the program has collected more than 1,700 new pairs of shoes and about 200 new winter coats.

The Breakfast Club and staff at Jefferson will pass the clothes out at the school at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 14, 2016.
