Hearing scheduled to decide if Moline mayoral candidates may run

Election Board members are working to determine whether two candidates for Moline’s mayoral seat are qualified to run.

MOLINE, Illinois -- Election Board members are working to determine whether two candidates for Moline's mayoral seat are qualified to run.

Current Mayor Scott Raes challenged his opponents' eligibility, because neither Alderman Stephanie Acri and Bob Vogelbaugh had their petition pages numbered at the bottom.   Both "Mr. Thanksgiving" and Acri say the bottom half of the petitions were cut off and hard to read.

Five out of the 11 candidates running for office in Moline did not number their petitions.  Vogelbaugh and Acri are the only ones whose candidacy is being challenged.

A hearing was scheduled for Monday, December 12, 2016. After a matter of minutes, the hearing was adjourned.

Raes was not expected to attend the hearing because of a conflict of interest.
