Scott County inmates make bikes new again for kids in need

Santa was there to hand out the bikes and helmets to more than 20 kids.

DAVENPORT, Iowa — Christmas came a little early for some kinds in the community on Thursday, Dec. 8. The Scott County Jail inmates fixed up old, broken down bikes and made them new again for kids in need.

Santa was there to hand out the bikes and helmets to more than 20 kids. All of the bikes were donated by companies throughout the community.

"I just love helping these kids out, they are at the age where they appreciate it so much. They really get excited about this and its a time of year where giving is great."

The program also helps inmates learn skills and give back to the community. The program through the jail has been around since 2005, and this is the ninth year that the jail has partnered with Friendly House.
