ANDALUSIA, Illinois---  With last year's kitchen fire in the past Snowstar Winter Park is putting the pieces together to officially open their doors on December 13th, 2016.

However there is still a lot to do before the  park can make that happen.

Although the snowfall over the weekend brought more than five inches of snow to the Quad City area, Snowstar's General Manager Dan McCanna says that's not enough snow for the slopes.

"Last year with the weather, we had a 54-day season which is unheard.... We had a little snow on Sunday so now the phone started ringing off the hook, (people) would have been out here skiing if we would have been open," says McCanna.

He also says the park plans to make snow for the next three days once the weather is cold enough. They hope to start late in the night Tuesday, December 6.

In the mean time, QC Construction crews are also working to get Snowstar's new Happy Joe's Pizza Grill up and running before their Thursday, December 8th deadline.

The grill comes after an electrical short in an ice maker started a fire in the kitchen, damaging the upper level of the Lunar Lodge.

Snowstar plans to hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the completed construction of the Happy Joe's Pizza Grill Thursday, December 8.
