ROCK ISLAND, Illinois — Thurgood Marshall Learning Center hosted their annual Thanksgiving Dinner for the community on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 over lunchtime. The dinner is cooked and served by Thurgood Marshall teachers and staff. Members of the community who have helped out the students over the year are invited.

This year, about 20 soldiers from the Rock Island Arsenal who don't have family nearby were invited.

"We had a community garden and a couple of the soldiers came over and helped with that. Some of them came and served at our Student Hunger Drive supper. And we thought, these guys are away from home; Let's have them come and spend some time with us and have a nice meal with us," said Mary Kmoch, a teacher at Thurgood Marshall Learning Center and organizer of the meal.
