BETTENDORF, Iowa — A brown and white pit bull is being given round the clock care after a concerned citizen found him and took him to the emergency vet, the Humane Society of Scotty County staff confirmed.
The pit bull, which is being called Apollo, was reportedly found in a roadway by a concerned citizen, and taken to the Animal Emergency Center of the Quad Cities in Bettendorf.
“When I picked him up I had to support his head because he was just limp,” says Brittany Wilkinson who found the dog.
Brittany was driving home with a friend when the pair spotted a pit bull in the middle of Greenway Drive in Bettendorf.
“When my lights shined on it he had his back to us and his head lifted up a little bit so I knew he was still alive,” says Dalton Stout, who also found the dog.
“The blanket was actually 10 feet away from him which makes me assumed he was dumped and not a stray,” added Brittany.
The dog is being nursed back to health by Jared Rosal of Animal Family Vet Care.
“Right now we are doing fluids on the house all the services on the house and he is staying here for free,” says Rosal.
Since no one knows who he belongs to, the Humane Society will be footing majority of the bills for the pup as long as he needs it. Anyone with information on the dog’s owner is asked to call the Humane Society.
Apollo’s vet bills are expected to grow, and anyone interested in donating to his care can visit the Scott County Humane Society’s website and include “Apollo” in the memo box.
Brittany also posted pictures on Facebook asking for donations.
“It’s been crazy. There have been a lot of shares and a lot of people reaching out and a lot of donations have been made I’ve been told, so that’s awesome,” added Brittany.
“Given his temperature and how he looked, if he would have been out for a couple more days he wouldn’t have made it,” added Rosal.
Now, his future is looking bright and vets say he’s making progress and could soon find his forever home.
“The humane society says people are already interested in adopting him,” says Brittany.
