One killed in Burlington shooting

Burlington has seen multiple shooting incidents in the past month.

BURLINGTON, Iowa -- Police are investigating a shooting that left one man dead in the city's Saunderson Heights neighborhood the morning of Tuesday, Nov. 22.

The Burlington Hawkeye reports that the victim was shot while in his car on South Gunnison Street. A witness in the area said she heard more than a dozen gunshots.

Police released on Wednesday, Nov. 23 that the man who died is Breion Isiah Combs, 28, from Chicago. His name had been held in order to notify family.

An autopsy is being performed at the University Hospitals in Iowa City.

The investigation is still ongoing.

Tuesday's shooting is the latest in a rash of shootings in Burlington. On Oct. 17, John P. Auwaerter was shot and sustained life-threatening injuries. Timothy A. Jones was subsequently arrested and charged in that incident. On Thursday, Nov. 17, a 28-year-old victim was shot in the 2400 block of Flint Hills Drive and had to be taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for treatment.
