ONAWA, Iowa (AP) — An Ankeny man accused of trying to lure a 6-year-old girl into his car faces several charges.
Jeff Lee Altmayer, 56, approached the girl Wednesday, Nov. 16, on an Onawa street and offered her $100 to get in his car, police told the Des Moines Register. Police say another child screamed, and neighbors confronted Altmayer. Police say Altmayer told them he was a police officer and armed before driving off.
Troopers soon stopped Altmayer south of Onawa, and he was arrested.
He’s been charged with enticing a minor with intent to commit sexual abuse or sexual exploitation, impersonating a public official and unlawful possession of a prescription drug.
Altmayer remained jailed Saturday on $50,000 bond. An attorney for Altmayer did not immediately return a message left Saturday seeking comment.
