ALTOONA, Iowa (AP) — Police in the Des Moines suburb of Altoona have arrested a man they say witnessed a crash, then beat a driver involved in the wreck.

Steven Webb, 56, of Pleasant Hill, was arrested Tuesday night, Nov. 15, reports Des Moines station KCCI.

Police say Webb began hitting a man after, they were told, the man tried to leave the scene of the crash. Officers reported that Webb knocked the man out, and was still punching the man when officers intervened. The beaten man was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

Webb has been charged with felony willful injury, and his bond set at $10,000.

Online court records do not show that he has yet hired an attorney. A call to Webb’s home rang unanswered Wednesday.
