CANTON, Illinois — A large gas explosion in the downtown area of Canton has emergency crews urging residents to stay away from the area. The explosion happened around 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 16 in the 10 block of North 1st Avenue.
One person died in the blast, and 11 were injured, according to a statement from the Fulton County Emergency Services and Disaster Agency.
Surrounding streets were closed and the Salvation Army was assisting displaced residents.
Ameren was reporting at least 150 power outages after the explosion.
