Step by step, Kings Harvest in Davenport gets back to normal after suffering damage in an October tornado, and now, they're welcoming people back with breakfast.

It's a morning that every volunteer and person that walks through the door has been working to reach.

"It's so great seeing everyone again that I haven't seen in more than a month get to come back in and catch up with them. And to see all the volunteers again, and the new volunteers," Brandi Anderson with Kings Harvest Ministries said.

Volunteers are serving breakfast for the first time since an October tornado damaged the roof, upstairs rooms and parts of the kitchen.

"I was kind of worried that we couldn't come down here, we couldn't feed, we couldn't help," volunteer Kara Shinn said.

It was even harder for the people who use Kings Harvest for food and shelter.

"It's like a big family. It really is. Everybody knows everybody," Mark Slock said.

"They've been waiting for this day for so long, it feels like, to be able to come and finally get to see everyone again and serve," Anderson said.

Now, those troubles are in the past, at least downstairs.

The upper level is still closed off as they wait for materials to arrive to repair the rooms and the roof, but everyone is thankful now that a warm breakfast is getting served once again. It's progress in a long effort to be ready and able to help.

"When everyone can come together and work as a team, we can get back to doing what we do best- helping the homeless," Shinn said.

"It's kind of like seeing the fruit of their labors. They did all this hard work, so these people could come back in," Anderson said.

It's a reunion worth waiting for.

"I love everybody here. They're all great people," Slock said.

The regular meal hours for Kings Harvest are now back, serving lunch on Wednesdays and Fridays from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm and breakfast on Saturdays from 9:00 am to 10:00 am, and they still plan on opening the winter warming shelter on December 1st.

They're still looking for volunteers, and for anyone interested, they'll be holding a training session coming up on Tuesday, November 15th, 2016 starting at 7:00 pm at Kings Harvest.
