Man dies in custody at Rock Island County Jail

ROCK ISLAND — The Rock Island County Sheriff’s Department is reporting that a 51-year-old Moline man has died at the county jail.

According to a press release, Otto Horton Jr. was found unresponsive in his cell around 11 p.m. Monday night. Jail personnel tried to resuscitate him, but were unsuccessful. He was transported to Trinity by a Rock Island Fire Department ambulance, where he was pronounced dead.

The release stated that Horton had serious medical issues and that his death was believed to have been from natural causes.

The sheriff’s office continues to investigate the incident.
