LECLAIRE, Iowa-- Welcome to Aunt Hattie's Fanciful Emporium where just about everything's for sale, but the laughs are free.
"Almost all times of the day in here you can hear somebody laughing," says shop owner Donna Walley.
But there wasn't much to snicker about Saturday when 19 unexpected items went missing, 9 Hillary Clinton and 10 Donald Trump paper dolls that sport different outfits. The Bernie Sanders version of the toy was untouched. Each cost $11.99 a pop.
"It's a silly item to steal, but it adds up. I'm a small business owner, and I can't afford it," says Walley.
This determined detective it's letting the thief off easy. She's told her customers, friends, and family to keep an eye out on Craigslist, eBay, and at flea markets for the unique campaign collectables.
"If you see a bulk of these items, know that they could have been stolen from our shop, and please contact the LeClaire Police Department. It's really important we don't let people get away with these types of things," says Walley.
Walley will be installing security cameras throughout her store front to prevent these types of things from happening again.
"I feel like I have to because someone has ruined it for everybody by stealing the stuff," says Walley.
But one thing will always stay the same. Through the good and the bad, they'll always find something to laugh about.
