DAVENPORT, Iowa –Budding artists from area high schools have the chance to see their sculpture crafted and sold by Isabel Bloom.
Students in Scott County and Rock Island County are invited to compete in the 2017 Village in Bloom sculpture contest, with the theme “Four-Footed Friends.”
To enter, students have to attend a sculpting workshop at the Isabel Bloom production studio in Davenport, led by Isabel Bloom sculptor and owner Donna Young.
Email Donna at “donnay@ibloom.com” by Saturday, October 1, 2016 to register. Two-hour workshops will be held Thursday, October 27 at 5 p.m., Saturday, October 29 at 10:30 a.m. and at 1 p.m. Workshop attendees will have to pay a $10 materials fee.
Final sculptures are due Monday, November 21.
“The Village in Bloom competition committee had a tough time choosing the winner the past two years,” Young said. “We’ve had wonderful entries from talented high school students throughout Rock Island and Scott County. We can’t wait to see what they will do with this year’s family pet theme.”
The winning sculpture will be sold for at least a year by Isabel Bloom as a fundraiser for future festivals. The artist will also get to experience the hands-on process of making the mold, casting, and finishing the sculpture in the Isabel Bloom production studio.
All entries will be on display at the Village in Bloom Festival in the Village of East Davenport on May 6, 2017.
