Mike Pence talks community engagement, supporting police

Just hours after Trump met with Milwaukee city leaders, Pence speaks about violence against police at a rally in New Mexico.

Republican vice presidential candidate governor Mike Pence focused on national security at a rally in New Mexico Tuesday, Aug. 16.

He says Donald Trump will make sure police departments across the country will be better prepared for violence against officers. The promise comes just hours after Trump met with Milwaukee city leaders to discuss the recent violence following the deadly shooting of an armed black man by a black police officer.

"(Trump) will call for more law enforcement, more community engagement, more effective policing and he will call for an end to the narrative that police are racist force in our society and the war on our police must be brought to an end," said Pence.

Trump will begin airing his first television ads next week in Florida, Ohio, North Carolina and Pennsylvania.
