Illinois lawmakers looks to raise minimum wage for support workers

The bill would raise their minimum wage to $15 an hour.

SPRINGFIELD, Illinois — An Illinois lawmaker is pushing for a living wage for support workers that help people with developmental disabilities.

Right now, there are 34,000 direct support workers in Illinois earning about $9 and hour. The bill would raise their minimum wage to $15 an hour.

Supporters say they are sending thousands of postcards to the governor to urge him to sign the bill into law.
