SHEFFIELD VILLAGE, Ohio-- A dog on the brink of death was rescued in Lorain County Monday morning.
"We see 24,000 patients a year. I've been doing this for 30 years. And this is one of the skinniest dogs that has been brought in," said Dr. Thomas Wood with the Lorain Animal Clinic.
Wood said the 4 to 5-year-old dalmatian-bull dog mix weighed only 30 pounds and was unable to walk.
"He should be more than twice that. He's less than half of his goal weight," Wood said.
Someone spotted the dog at East 31st and West River Road in Sheffield Village. It appears the dog had been starved and kept in a cage for months then dumped on the side of the road.
"It would take some time to get to this condition. This didn't happen in a week or two weeks. This took some time. He had to have access to water, somehow," Wood said.
For now, they are calling him Augie, because he was discovered in August. He'll stay at the clinic for a while as he recovers then he will head to the Friendship APL, where he will most likely be fostered.
