BURLINGTON, Iowa — A house fire in Burlington caused an estimated $85,000 in damages to the home and property on Wednesday, Aug. 10.

Burlington Fire Department says they were called to the 800 block of South Garfield Avenue around 6 a.m. to find smoke coming from the second story of the home. The fire was brought under control by 7:15 a.m. but had spread to the attic.

Six of the home’s seven residents were at home at the time and escaped without injuries, but one dog died in the fire and several cats have not yet been found.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but is not considered suspicious, says the fire department.
