MILAN, Illinois - With the snip of a ribbon, the Quad City Animal Welfare Center opened its second location on Monday, August 8th, 2016.

The new spot, located at 612 West 1st Street in Milan, Illinois, will house the non-profit's Spay/Neuter & Wellness Clinic and hopes to nearly double the amount of surgeries they perform every year. In 2015, the QCAWC spayed/neutered more than 3,300 cats and dogs. The shelter now expects to increase that number to more than 6,000 a year, as well as add additional walk-in wellness clinic hours.

"It just makes a healthier animal," said Patti McRae, Executive Director of the QCAWC. "Cats are less likely to spay. When you have dogs spayed or neutered, it helps with aggression, so there's just so many great reasons to do it."

The QCAWC's original location, 724 W. 2nd Avenue in Milan, Illinois, is still open as the shelter's Adoption and Education Center. A fundraising campaign is taking place right now to pay for more equipment so they can continue to grow. For more information, click here.
