Crash near Blue Grass closes southbound Highway 61 for several hours

A crash on the southbound lane of Highway 61 near Blue Grass, Iowa has closed part of the highway.

BLUE GRASS, Iowa -- Roughly five hours after a crash closed part of southbound Highway 61, the roadway reopened.

The crash happened shortly before 4:30 a.m. on Thursday close by Exit 107 near Blue Grass. Few details about the crash are known at this point, but crews are still on the scene directing traffic and managing the situation.

Drivers heading toward Muscatine were detoured through Blue Grass on Zachary Avenue.  Others who didn't need to be in that area were asked to take an alternate route.

The road was reopened around 9:30 a.m., according to a Tweet by Iowa Trooper Dan Loussaert.

Earlier in the morning, around 6:40 a.m., Loussaert was providing updates about the cleanup, saying that crews were still on scene with Scott and Muscatine's Sheriff Departments assisting.
