DAVENPORT, Iowa — The Davenport Lutheran Home broke ground on its new Memory Care Unit on Thursday, July 14. Dozens of community members gathered at the home for a brief religious service followed by the groundbreaking ceremony.
The unit will have 26 private patient suites, specifically to offer long term care for patients with Alzheimer's and dementia. Lutheran Home leaders say this addition is needed now more than ever.
"More and more people are being afflicted with dementia. I think it's going to continue to grow. We're just very proud to offer this service," said administrator Shelly Hopp.
The facility will take about a year to complete.
