Galesburg protesters march to support the Black Lives Matter Movement and Dallas officers

More than 100 people participated in the protest, holding signs to promote the Black Lives Matter Movement as well as showing support for police officers.

GALESBURG, Illinois-- It took less than three days for Carl Sandburg College students Olivia Graves and Dakota Williams to organize a  Black Lives Matter Protest down Henderson Street, July 9.

This was a response to the recent deaths of  Philando Castile, Alton Sterling and officers of the Dallas Police Department.

"I felt that I needed to get the Galesburg community involved because I didn't think enough people knew about it or were angry enough about it," says Graves.
More than 100 people participated in the protest, holding signs to promote the Black Lives Matter Movement as well as showing support for police officers.
"All lives matter but right now we need to focus on giving value to this to be comparable to the value that we give every other life...(Also)  We have to mourn (the police deaths in Dallas) because families lost their loved ones our community lost--I'm a former police officer so I understand the challenges of being a law enforcement officer," says event sponsor Anthony Law.
During the walk, many people along Henderson Street honked their horns at the protesters to show their support.
