More than 3,000 pounds of frozen chicken and beef entrée products are being recalled because they may be contaminated with metal.
The products, from ConAgra Foods, were recalled on Wednesday, July 6, 2016, according to a statement from the Food and Safety Inspection Service. They were distributed to retailers in Illinois, Arkansas, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Vermont, and Wisconsin.
“The metal fragments may be embedded in the sauce contained within the frozen entrée products,” read the statement. The pieces that may be in the entrées are between 2 and 9 mm in diameter, are curled, malleable, and shiny.
The following products are part of the recall:
- 22-oz. plastic bagged meal packages of “P.F. Chang’s Home Menu Brand Signature Spicy Chicken.” with “Use By” date of 6/08/17 and case code 5006616500.
- 22-oz. plastic bagged meal packages of “P.F. Chang’s Home Menu Brand Mongolian Style Beef.” with “Use By” date of 6/17/17 and case code 5006617400.
They were made on June 13, 2016 and June 22, 2016. The establishment numbers on the recalled products is “EST. 233” and can be found inside the USDA mark of inspection.
According to the FSIS statement, the issue was found on July 1 “when an establishment employee observed metal fragments while dispensing sugar from a supplier for sauce formulation during processing. The resulting sauce is a component in the frozen entrée products.”
This is considered a “Class I Recall” that carries a high health risk. The USDA defines this type of recall as “a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.”
If you have these products, you are urged to throw them away or return them to the place you bought them.
