SILVIS, Illinois-- It was a close call that has Valley Construction Foreman Justin Seybold feeling surprisingly calm.
"I had a gentleman hit me up on I-74 the other day," says Seybold.
The mirror of a wide load truck crossing the bridge smacked Seybold while he was working. Luckily for him the truck wasn't going very fast.
"There's a lot more to it than just fixing a road," says Seybold.
It's an office where you can trade in your freshly shined leather loafers for a pair of asphalt encrusted steel toed boots. Your tie, hang that up for an electric lime green vest that could be the difference between life or death.
Distracted drivers who don't follow the rules is one reason this outside office makes the Forbes list of top ten most dangerous jobs.
"It's very annoying to see someone coming through talking on a phone or texting on a phone and using their knees or wrists to steer when you could slip up any minute and hit one of us," says Seybold.
It's something always on the mind of this father of three whose family is a constant reminder to do the job well, but to also return home in one piece.
"We are people too. We live here in the Quad Cities with you guys. We're trying to get in and out as fast as we can. We know it's a pain, but give us a little respect," says Seybold.
