PLAINVIEW, Iowa -- Several fire crews battled a barn fire early Wednesday morning, June 22nd, 2016 but couldn't save the barn.

Crews got the call of a barn fire around 2 a.m. on Wednesday. Hay inside the barn kept the flames strong for about an hour, but crews were able to weaken the fire.

The farm owner tells WQAD News 8 that there was cattle inside when the fire started, but they all got out and are safe.

The barn is said to be a total loss. It is believed that lightning is the main cause of the barn fire.
