MOLINE, Illinois — Local athletes hit the pavement before cooling off with a cold beer at the third annual Micro Brew Mile Craft Beer Festival Saturday, June 18, in downtown Moline. Runners took part in the Micro Brew Mile and 6K Road Race, then enjoyed some drinks at the festival.

The event featured beers from more than 40 local breweries, food and live music. The event benefited the Children's Therapy Center of the Quad Cities and the Chris VanSpeybroeck Memorial Scholarship.

"We've all done a mile, some of us love it, some of us hate it, but we wanted to add a little fun to it with great craft beer afterwards, great entertainment. Make it more of an experience and destination weekend for people coming down here to the Quad Cities," said Joshua Sherrod, the event's organizer.

The race is unique as it offers five waves of a USATF certified Road Mile, and the unique distance of a 6k, says Sherrod.
