FORT DODGE, Iowa (AP) — A 21-year-old Iowa woman has been charged in connection with the death of a 6-year-old girl injured in a collision on Christmas Day.

Payton Henry was sitting behind the driver’s seat of a truck her father was driving when it was struck head-on, according to several media reports.  The crash happened Christmas Day 2015, and Payton died the next day from her injuries according to her obituary.

The accident occurred about two miles north of Duncombe in Webster County. The Iowa State Patrol says Ruth Tomlinson was driving east in the westbound lane when her vehicle struck an oncoming pickup in which Payton and her family were traveling.

Court records say Tomlinson is now charged with driving on the wrong side of a two-way highway, failure to maintain control and failure to provide proof of financial liability.

She’s due in court Friday, June 17.
