MOLINE, Illinois - Phil Young picks up his "Race for the Cure" packet before he heads out for a run.

The hot weather doesn't stop him from getting ready to race on the morning of June 11th, 2016 to help find a cure for breast cancer.

"I'm taking it easy and not spending too much time out there today," said runner Phil Young.

Even though he's physically and mentally focusing on running the heat can take a toll.

"It increases your perceived effort, you could run at a pace that normally would be fine and the heat can really impact your heart rate and the way that you feel the run's going," said Young.

He's not nervous about running in the hot weather and neither is one breast cancer survivor who's been competing in races across the country.

"I just make sure I hydrate well today and get a good nights sleep, I'm not concerned about the heat too much," said runner Judy Pickett.

The runner have their minds on the ultimate goal of the race.

"The most important thing about all of them is that it's raising awareness about breast cancer, as well as raising money for people that has been diagnosed," said Pickett.

Organizers are prepared for the warmer weather, and will have plenty of people on-hand to help out the runners.

"We have plenty of chilled water, we have ice we have medical tents at both our 5k and our 1.2 mile finish," said Christina McNamara spokesperson for Quad Cities Race for the Cure.
