DAVENPORT, Iowa — Three finalists have been selected for the city of Davenport’s open position for city administrator. Mayor Frank Klipsch announced the finalists Wednesday, June 8, as Stephen Riley, Town Manager of Hilton Head in South Carolina; Corri Spiegel, Interim City Administrator of Davenport; and Kevin Woods, City Manager of Stallings in North Carolina.

Finalists will be interviewed in Davenport July 11-12, 2016. Mayor Klipsch invites the community to a meet and greet reception with the finalists 5-6:30 p.m. Monday, July 11, at River Music Experience, 129 Main Street.

The search committee had looked at 34 applicants representing 17 states.

Former administrator Craig Malin was voted out of his position by city countil 9-1 on June 24, 2015. Malin received a hefty severance package and is now the city administrator in Seaside, California. City officials say Malin had withheld information concerning a casino deal.

Texas-based firm Strategic Government Resources has assisted in conducting the employment search.

Finalist biographies

The finalists biographies were provided in a release from the city of Davenport’s communications office:

Stephen Riley has served the Hilton Head community for 25 years. Riley holds a master of arts in urban planning from the University of Iowa and a bachelor of arts degree in urban studies from the University of Nebraska. He has experience in strategic planning, project management, budgeting and financial operations, organizational change, customer service and media relations.

Corri Spiegel currently serves as the interim city administrator of Davenport and was the assistant to the city manager from August 2014 to June 2015. Spiegel holds a master of science of organizational leadership from Colorado State University and a master of public administration from Arizona State University. She is also a certified economic developer. She has 13 years experience working in diverse municipal government settings with 10 years of that in senior management.

Kevin Woods has fostered $91 million in recent economic growth in Stallings. He holds a master’s degree in national security and strategic studies from the Naval War College and a master’s in operational planning from the United States Army Advanced Studies Program. He is also a credentialed manager through the ICMA and completed city administrator and economic development programs through the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
